This project brings to life a historical outreach picture book set in medieval Granada during the Muslim period—a city of courtyards, water, and memory. Published by Baker Street and written by University of Granada professors Elena Bustamante Álvarez and Begoña Serrano, the story invites readers to explore this past through a sensitive lens, where text and image come together to bring history closer to younger audiences.
Character design set in the historical period, with attention to historical context and the overall visual coherence of the project.
Definition of the color palette, as well as the clothing and physical traits of the main characters.
Research and reference gathering for the depiction of the buildings and objects featured in the story.
A brief overview of the creative process: from initial sketches to the final illustration.
Design of various layout elements, such as the endpapers and the half title page, ensuring visual consistency throughout the project.
Cover development based on two initial proposals with different stylistic approaches. After a phase of exploration and evaluation, one concept is selected and further developed and refined into the final version.
